Dr Otto Zimmermann spent his university years in Würzburg, where he was introduced to otolaryngology early on as a student assistant in a large ENT practice. His academic journey was complemented by a laboratory-based doctoral thesis, which he completed with the distinction magna cum laude, as well as study visits to the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and Bolzano. He completed his specialist training in otolaryngology at the ENT clinics in Augsburg, Trier and Minden, with a particular emphasis on comprehensive surgical training, including middle ear surgery. He also explored related fields within otolaryngology, such as allergology and plastic-aesthetic facial surgery. After three years as a senior physician at the ENT Clinic in Minden, he opened a private practice in Bolzano in 2012, followed by a branch practice at Brixsana in 2017.
